You might not think about omega 3 for pets, but they need these essential fatty acids as much as we do. Dogs and cats, in particular, would receive a lot of these essential nutrients in their diets in the wild, and it’s important that we supply them at home, too.

Unfortunately, the cooking and drying process does destroy many of the nutrients, leading to a potential deficiency in most animals.
2. If you feel your pet needs more omega 3s, especially if you notice dry skin, try mixing a tablespoon of olive oil or canola oil into their food, especially wet food. This can help hydrate their skin and keep them healthier in general.
3. Speak to your vet about omega 3 supplements for animals. There are many brands marketed directly to each breed and species. Your vet can help you find a good brand and can also help you decide how much of a dosage your animal should receive.
4. Don’t be afraid to feed human supplements to your pets either — just watch the amounts. High quality omega 3 fatty acids are pretty much the same whether they’re for humans or pets, so it doesn’t make much of a difference. Just wrap the pill in a piece of cheese, or if you have liquid gel caps, puncture them and squeeze them right into your pet’s food.
